Going from 0 to 60 mph in under 8 seconds, the VW Passat GTE Plug-in is an average-priced, high-performance electric vehicle for the environmentally conscious racer in us all. With a top speed of 136 mph, the Passat GTE Plug-in also boasts a 31 mile all-electric range.
Audi A3 e-Tron
Available only in Germany for the moment, the Audi A3 e-Tron will be released in the US later this year. Boasting a coveted 5 star European safety rating, this Audi plug-in hybrid will be able to go from 0 to 60 mph in 7.6 seconds.
Rimac Concept One
This crazy Croatian sports car is all electric and is sure to drain all your bank accounts. For a cool $1 million, you can take this little beauty for a spin from 0 to 60 mph in 2.8 seconds.
Volvo XC90 T8
A plug-in hybrid SUV, the Volvo XC90 T8 is the perfect car for the whole family. Volvo states the T8 can go 25 miles on pure electricity between charges.
2016 Chevy Volt
A new-and-improved version of the Chevy Volt adds a sporty edge to the original design. The designers also added a fifth seat, giving it an even broader customer appeal.
Tesla Model X
But the Tesla Model X is the EV we are most excited about—an undeniably cool crossover complete with falcon doors. Though we have only seen the concept designs, it looks like the most awesome and most practical electric car we’ve ever seen.
These are just some of the many new EVs set to launch this year. It’s clear that the market is turning away from gas-powered vehicles. As the major car manufacturers continue to throw their money and their best designers into research and development for the next great EV, the rest of the world is changing to accommodate their accomplishments.
